Locked into ADT, Vivint, Alder, Safe Home, or another provider? You have more options than they told you. Here's the exact process — and how HYVE can buy you out and take over your equipment.
Not the sales brochure — the signed agreement. Look for the initial term (usually 36, 42, or 60 months), the start date (often the install date, not the sale date), and the monthly rate. If you can't find it, request a copy from your provider in writing; they're required to provide it. Your latest bill usually shows your account start date too.
This is where most people get trapped. Many agreements automatically renew for another 12 months (sometimes longer) unless you give written notice 30–60 days before the end of the term. Find the renewal language and the notice window and put both dates on your calendar today.
If you're still inside your initial term, the fee is typically a large percentage of your remaining monthly payments — often 75–100%. Multiply your monthly rate by the months left and apply the percentage in your agreement. That number is what a buyout needs to cover, and it's often smaller than people fear.
You may not need to buy anything new. 2GIG and Qolsys IQ panels and many DSC and Honeywell systems can be reprogrammed to HYVE's no-contract monitoring. Some proprietary panels (Vivint's, for example) can't be — we'll tell you upfront after seeing a photo of your panel.
Phone cancellations get "lost." Send written notice — email plus certified mail is safest — that states your account number, your cancellation date, and that you do not authorize renewal. Keep a copy. Then watch your bank account for the next two cycles.
Schedule your new install to go live the day your old service ends. No gap in monitoring, no double-paying. This is exactly what we do for every switcher.
Send a photo of your agreement or your last bill. We read the fine print, find your real end date, flag the auto-renewal window, and tell you exactly where you stand — no obligation.
When you switch to HYVE, we can cover part or all of your early-termination fee. The amount depends on your remaining balance and the system you're moving to. You get the number in writing before you sign anything.
Compatible panels, sensors, and cameras get reprogrammed to our monitoring instead of replaced. You keep what works and only add what your property actually needs.
Month-to-month monitoring. No 36, 42, or 60 month agreements. No cancellation fees. We earn your business every month or you walk — that's the whole point.
Every agreement is different, and terms change — always confirm against your own signed contract. These are the patterns we see most often when customers bring us their paperwork.
Multi-year initial terms are standard. Early-termination fees are typically calculated as a percentage of the remaining balance. Cancellation generally requires notice to their cancellation department, not the local office. Some ADT-branded panels can be taken over; newer proprietary ones often can't.
Long initial terms (commonly 42–60 months) with equipment often financed separately from monitoring — so check whether you're paying off hardware in addition to the service term. Vivint's Smart Hub panel is proprietary and typically cannot be taken over, but cameras and some sensors may be reusable.
Frequently sold door-to-door with 60-month terms and auto-renewal language. Read the renewal clause carefully — the notice window is easy to miss. Many Alder-installed panels are 2GIG or Qolsys hardware, which we can often take over.
Regional and dealer-based providers vary widely. The common thread: multi-year terms, auto-renewal, and written-notice requirements. Bring us the contract and we'll map it for you in one conversation.
“…helped me get out of a nightmare of a situation with my old security company.”
“…installed same day and helped get us out of a dead-end contract with our old provider.”
“…saved me $25/month vs my past alarm provider.”
“…helped me get out of my contract with the old company.”
“…switched my business over from AMP Smart — their cameras are so much better.”
No obligation. We'll tell you where you stand even if you don't switch.
