Hardware is the easy part. The value is in the logic — what happens automatically, in what order, and who gets told. These are the scenes we configure most often for families across the Wasatch Front, the Front Range, and the Treasure Valley.

  • Leave home. Last phone exits the geofence → alarm arms, doors lock, garage confirms closed, thermostat sets back, and you get a single confirmation.
  • Someone at the door. Doorbell detects a person → porch camera records, you get a live two-way call, and you can unlock for a delivery or a guest from anywhere.
  • Motion at night. Side-yard camera sees movement after 11pm → floodlights on, clip saved, alert sent. If the alarm is armed, monitoring is already looking.
  • Kids home from school. A child's code disarms the system → you get a notification, the thermostat warms the house, and the front door relocks itself after 30 seconds.
  • Water or smoke. A leak sensor under the water heater or a monitored smoke detector trips → monitoring dispatches, and water shutoff can close the main automatically.
  • Vacation. Lights follow a lived-in pattern, packages are logged on camera, and a trusted neighbor's temporary code works only on the days you choose.

Consumer smart home gear often means devices sitting on your home WiFi with default settings. We put your locks, lights, and sensors on a dedicated, encrypted Z-Wave network managed by the panel, so a weak password on a smart bulb can't become a way into your system.

What is smart home security?+
Smart home security is a system where your alarm, cameras, locks, doorbell, lighting, garage, and thermostat run on one platform and react to each other — for example, exterior lights turning on and a clip saving when motion is detected near a door, or the alarm arming itself when the last phone leaves the geofence.
Can everything run from one app?+
Yes. HYVE builds on the Alarm.com platform so cameras, alarm, locks, lights, garage, and climate live in a single app with professional monitoring behind it, instead of six separate apps that don't talk to each other.
Will my existing smart devices work with it?+
Many will. Z-Wave locks, thermostats, lighting modules, and compatible garage controllers integrate directly. For devices in closed ecosystems we'll tell you upfront what can and can't be brought in.
Does smart home automation make my home less secure?+
Done badly, yes — consumer devices on a flat home network with default passwords are a real risk. Done right, automation is a security upgrade. We design the logic (lights, locks, arming, alerts) with security as the first requirement, on a professionally monitored platform.
Can I give guests or cleaners access without a key?+
Yes. Smart locks let you issue codes for specific people and time windows, revoke them instantly, and see a log of every entry — a big improvement over spare keys under the mat.
Is there a contract?+
No. HYVE never uses contracts, in Utah, Colorado, or Idaho. Equipment is financed over 84 months with no upfront cost and services are month-to-month.
Does smart home security work in new construction?+
